World Number Three Refuses to Get Covid Jab

INTERNATIONAL: The world of tennis’ number three, Stefanos Tsitsipas says he’ll only get vaccinated if it becomes mandatory on the men’s ATP Tour. The 23-year-old Greek says he has reservations about getting vaccinated, even while the ATP Tour is publicly encouraging players to get their shots.

Attending a media briefing after his first-round match at the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Tsitsipas was asked if he’d been vaccinated yet:

"I haven't. I haven't. No one has told me anything. No one has made it a mandatory thing to be vaccinated so far. I mean, at some point I will have to I'm pretty sure about it, but so far it hasn't been mandatory to compete, so I haven't, I haven't done it, no."

He joins world number one, Novak Djokovic, in saying that he hopes vaccinations will not become mandatory, but it puts him at odds with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal who say athletes should be leading by example.
